.htaccess

Use your .htaccess file to block a lot of spammers. This won’t eliminate spam but it’ll block a lot of them and get your server load down a bit.

Copy the code below to your .htaccess file and edit the domain data:

Stop Comment Spam

Many spammers go directly to the comment script without first going through the blog post comment form and therefore don’t have a referrer. The code below block those comment spam attempts.

Stop Splog Registration

As for the comment spammers, many splog-creators go directly to the blog registration script without first going through the blog registration form and therefore don’t have a referrer. The code below block those splog creation attempts.

Stop Image Hotlinking

Block other sites from stealing your bandwidth and server CPU to present images stored on your server on other sites.

Block Proxy Servers

Use the code below to block visitors going through proxy servers. Many spammers use proxy servers so the below code in .htaccess could help, but it may also block some real visitors.
